The Book of Lane Theme and Guidelines

It is my firm belief that it is our purpose in life is to reach spiritual heights, be true to ourselves, and help others.  As the noted psychiatrist, Scott Peck, states in his acclaimed book The Road Less Traveled:  “Life is Difficult…”  My theme is that life is a continual journey to find our way to a peaceful way of living with unresolved issues by pruning ourselves and being pruned by outside circumstances.  Although we suffer in the pruning, we learn who we are meant to be and what we are to do in this lifetime.  In my book, I hope to achieve helping others learn how they can leave the world a better place than they found it and not settle into complacency and self absorption, and at the same time live a fulfilled life.  Three of my guidelines are:  The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:  where there is hatred – let me sow love, where there is injury – pardon, where there is doubt – faith, where there is despair  – hope, where there is darkness – light, where there is sadness – joy.  Oh, Lord, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled  – as to console, to be understood – as to understand, to be loved – as to love..  For it is in giving – that we receive, it is in pardoning – that we are pardoned, it is in dying – that we are born to eternal life;” the Golden Rule, “Do Unto Others What You Would Have Done to You,” and the Twelve Steps of twelve step programs.

The Book of Lane Overview

The second entry of my Lane C. Mayhew Consulting blog was about the word muse. The subject was “What does the word muse mean?” I thought at one time of calling my entries simply “my musings.”   I noted that the word muse, as a noun, means to think or meditate in silence, as on some subject…..to gaze meditatively or wonderingly.  As a verb, it means to meditate on, to comment on thoughtfully, and be reflective and contemplative, the essence of prayer and meditation.  Originally my “musings” were what I thought I would be writing about, however, my blog writing continued to include more.  I created this blog using WordPress  (thebookoflane.wordpress.com) as a vehicle and transition point to organize my thoughts about my “blog-a-book” which is an eclectic 365 day guidebook for living including entries on spirituality, moral values, “thoughts for thought,” my philosophies, and tips for daily living.  Although my book perhaps is not for the average person, the most important thing to me is that it gives me pleasure to write, I am discovering more about myself and life in general, and I feel good about what I am trying to achieve – how I hope to inspire.

The Book of Lane – Introduction

By way of introduction, this is the second blog that I have established in the name of my book that will be published in the Fall of 2015, entitled The Book of Lane.  My previous blog, lanecmayhew.blogspot.com, is under the name of my company, Lane C. Mayhew Consulting.  I began writing this blog in January 17, 2012, in order to write not only how I feel about life, but more importantly on the issues of moral and spiritual values.  At that time it was one of my hopes that it would help the reader consider these things in their daily lives.  I do not think we talk and write enough about right and wrong, and in many cases we may not even know the difference between them.  Ultimately this is where I hope to be of help, perk interest, and encourage others to believe as I do:  that if we had the same moral guidelines and philosophies throughout the world, it would be a better place and we would have a good chance at peace.  I also want to help others to live fulfilled and joyful lives without fear.   I have spent a lifetime searching for peace and what it would like if I achieved it.  I have found that peace comes when we know we are living the way a Higher Being wants us to live and are in alignment with the Indescribable.  We are all capable of doing something of significance, and once we develop the talents we have been given, then our goal should be to give them away.
